Sammy Starkey

A Poem to My Dying Aunt Barbara

Timing isn't a Starkey trait

We're always a little too late

I should have told you before

That I love you forever more

I wish I could put your worries aside

I wish I could take you to a safe place to hide

It's so hard to say good-bye

And selfishly I want you to stay

But I realize how hard it is for you each day

So take with you all my love

Let it shine down on us from up above

Remember the smiles, the joys

the runny noses and a house full of toys

Those moments will ever fade from my memory

I'll pass them down when I tell your story

of the couragious Aunt Barb who know her time was through

and now shines her love down from above.
